I loved Kick-Ass, and subsequently the graphic novel. Yes I watched the film first then read the novel and loved them both equally, the latter being a lot more violent but then they usually are.

Having not read the later comics this did not deter me from watching Kick-Ass 2. I have to say I really liked it. People have already got on the band wagon and stated it was not as good as the first, blah blah blah. I have to agree slightly in saying that it did lose its originality but it was still a fun film overall.

Now I’m not going to go in to detail about the plot, if you want that go and read Wikipedia!

There is a good mix of ultra-violence, profanity, sexiness, profanity, gore and profanity hahaha yes this has plenty of swearing. But to me that’s all good. If these things bother you then don’t go and see it! Personally I f*****g love it. Yeah I said it! Sh*t like this brings out my inner child and it’s that feeling that makes me enjoy it more. Taylor-Johnson and Moretz reprise their roles and are both on top form but the scene stealer is Christopher Mintz-Plasse as super villain ‘The Motherfucker’. I was in stitches every time he was on the screen and he pulls this role off with ease.

Coming close to that was the legend that is Jim Carrey. Having seen him in so many different roles in the past, Major Stars and Stripes is up there with The Mask and Ace Ventura. It’s just a shame that he shunned the movie so much on its release due to his view on violence. Crazy when you consider how much there is in this movie. But at least he gets to sit back and not have to promote the film yet still collect his pay check.

Kick-Ass 2 (2013)

  • Christopher Mintz-Plasse performance as The Motherfucker
  • Jim Carey is also excellent
  • A bit samey compared to the first
  • Missed Nicholas Cage
